Dancin’ a Jig

Here’s the story on this shot.

We were at Fort Niagara in up-state New York. A person working for the Fort was sitting on a barrel, playing a fife. Several families had gathered to listen.

Without prompting, my daughter stepped out of the crowd and walked up to the performer. It was like a scene from the Pied Piper of Hamelin. Emily didn’t take her eyes off the flute.

Ever so slowly, my daughter began to move her legs and raise her arms and began to dance to the tune. Obviously, people stopped watching the fife player and focused on this strawberry-blond and her impromptu jig. When it was over, the flute player bowed to my daughter and the crowd erupted into applause. It was wonderful.
