Today was quite a wonderful day. It began with temperatures near 50 degrees, the sun shining and the birds singing. I stepped on the front porch to drink some coffee and soak up some of the rays and saw two Downy Woodpeckers, a Red-Headed Woodpecker and some Chickadee in the neighbor’s tree. I watched them for quite some time and couldn’t believe how energetic they were.
Our families finished breakfast and the adults went for a walk as the temperature dropped quickly. It didn’t take long to realize the warm morning was just a blip on winter’s radar. By late afternoon, as the Mullens’ loaded the car and left for the day, we were back to wearing the winter coats and running the heater at full blast.
I just can’t say how happy I am to spend the last day of the year and the first of the new with Dave and Delora. It is one of the best things we do year after year.
