Recently there have been questions about my beliefs regarding the current state of our nation, the depravity of this administration, and the active sell-out of the evangelical church.
In the past few months, my motives and faith have been questioned. In the opinion of some…perhaps many…I’ve lost my way. But, allow me to clear any confusion. And if you anticipate my comments will offend your sensitive constitution or hurt your snowflake feelings, you are probably right. They will. So stop reading now. You are free to unfriend me on Facebook, delete my contact information from your phone, cancel your subscription to curtaustin.com, and pretend you don’t know me when we pass in Walmart. You won’t be the first…or the last.
I’m tired of acting like everything happening is normal…or worse…acceptable. I refuse to debate these points with you. I will never agree to disagree. I am not blind. Nor am I a fool. In fact, I’ve never been more clear in my thinking, never more confident in my beliefs, never more outraged by these realities. I’m watching this happen from the inside, as a once self-proclaimed Evangelical and a current government employee. This is the terrible truth, like it or not.
So let’s dive in.
First, our nation is in a precarious position, perhaps even on the precipice of disaster.
Children run drills to avoid being murdered in their classrooms while books and ideology are banned and burned.

As of November 22, 2025 (326 days of the calendar year) there have been 376 mass shootings in the United States. https://www.gunviolencearchive.org/
The National Guard is stationed in Blue cities across this nation in response to a false narrative of chaos and destruction. https://www.al.com/…/trumps-national-guard-deployment…
Homeland Security, once charged with keeping us safe from enemies flying planes into buildings, has been given Supreme Court approval to profile and kidnap anyone brown in color or speaking anything other than English. https://www.americanimmigrationcouncil.org/…/supreme…/
According to someone in Coast Guard leadership, a noose and a swastika are no longer images reflecting hate, leaving us asking, if not these images, what images DO reflect hate? https://www.cbsnews.com/…/coast-guard-guidance-nooses…/
This week we learned nurses are no longer considered “professionals” while pedophiles are now a protected status of the rich. https://nurse.org/…/nursing-excluded-as-professional…/
Racism runs rampant and is given a license, a face mask, and a sign-on bonus. https://www.ice.gov/join
The removal of DEI initiatives, undermining the Equal Rights Amendment, and Voting Rights are simple reminders of the depth of the depravity in our nation. When we no longer seek to be diverse, equitable, or inclusive, we are clearly sending notice that we as a nation desire conformity, inequality, and exclusion. What has taken hundreds of years to achieve, were so easily un-done in a matter of weeks.
Second, and I want to very clear about this point: I think DJT is absolute evil.
The orange man who currently sits in his golf cart on weekends and occasionally in the over-gilded Oval Office violently berates global leaders and anyone who dares to ask legitimate questions about his decisions, including fellow leaders and the news media. https://www.nytimes.com/live/2025/02/28/us/trump-news

He utilizes every possible opportunity to benefit from the destruction of our country, the literal tearing down of the White House, and dismantling of the moral fabric of this country.
He belittles the disabled. https://www.nbcnews.com/…/trump-s-worst-offense-mocking…
He disrespects our military and dishonors those who served this nation with distinction and honor.
He calls POWs cowards. https://www.theguardian.com/…/trump-soldiers-tammy…
While Americans’ lose health care coverage and food security, he’s spent nearly a quarter of his time in office playing golf (23.4%) and an expense of $101,000,000. https://didtrumpgolftoday.com/

He has no understanding of the Rule of Law and the authority of the Constitution, especially the 1st Amendment, protecting free speech; the 4th Amendment, protection of unauthorized search and seizure; the 14th Amendment, the naturalization of foreigners born within the United States; the 5th Amendment, failure to allow due process of law for anyone on U.S. soil; among others. https://www.hsgac.senate.gov/…/peters-releases-new…/
He sees the Bible as nothing more than a prop held upside down for a photo op or a product he can sell, like the $600 watch with his name misspelled on its face, or the signed guitars he cannot play. https://www.nbcnews.com/…/religious-leaders-lawmakers…

Finally, the Evangelical Church has quite literally sold it’s soul to the devil.
Once considered God’s chosen instrument for spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ throughout the world, the Evangelical Church has lost the plot and it’s purpose.
This is not just my opinion, but a well-documented reality.
For instance, “God in America,” Frontline and the American Experience’s brilliant 6-part series, outlines the rise of the Church and the nation, often at the expense of the Gospel and truth. https://www.pbs.org/godinamerica/view/
More recently, Tim Alberta’s amazing book, “The Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory: American Evangelicals in an Age of Extremism” clearly documents the rapid substitution of the Church’s commitment to Christ, even as it hosts massive rallies and markets GOP and Trump merchandise. https://www.harpercollins.com/…/the-kingdom-the-power…
Sadly, rather than trusting the God of their Fathers, Evangelical leaders have elected to put their faith in the power of politics and money, specifically the GOP and Donald Trump.
In case you believe these are one-off events, the PEW Research Center found that while Trump’s approval ratings are at an all time low, White Evangelicals continue to stand out in their support for Trump:
– 72% approve the way Trump is currently handling his job as president.
– 69% rate the ethics of top Trump administration officials as excellent or good. Stop and re-read that last sentence: The same administration who has actively blocked the release of files that would reveal child abusers and rapists, who went to the Supreme Court to seek approval to let children go hungry, who told his administration to burn food assigned to USAID rather than distribute it…Yes, THOSE ethics are believed by the White Evangelicals to be good to excellent.
– 57% of White Evangelicals report they trust what Trump says more than what previous presidents said. Again, the man who is a pathological liar, who doesn’t know basic math of reducing costs 1200%, who creates false narratives, who has the nickname TACO for a reason, is considered by White Evangelicals as trustworthy in his words. https://www.pewresearch.org/…/white-evangelicals…/
White Evangelicals are the a key component of the National Rifle Association, making it possible for more lethal means of killing in the streets, our schools and churches. https://www.nature.com/articles/s41599-019-0276-z
These same White Evangelicals have forsaken their first love, prostituted themselves for a seat at a table of fools.
Final Thoughts:
I wish I could continue to post cute stories and humorous insights. I wish we could pretend this is not happening. The reality is that the nation we once knew, the freedoms some of us once enjoyed (and took for granted) are under attack and until enough people speak up, we will lose it all.
