Standing Tall

I saw in the news a few weeks ago that Colonel Susannah Meyers was removed from her position because she countered the statements from the Vice President regarding the security of Greenland. From my viewpoint, Trump and his second are attempting at a hostile take-over of a territory of another country. I’m still trying to determine if the firing of Col Meyers was due to the fact she expressed her opinion or because she’s a capable woman in leadership.

Either way, there needs to be a point where someone speaks to the reality of a situation. Who better to challenge falsehood about the Greenland situation than someone who has her boots on the ground?

As Paulo Freire said, “As one might expect, authoritarianism will at times cause children and students to adopt rebellious positions, defiant of any limit, discipline, or authority. But it will also lead to apathy, excessive obedience, uncritical conformity, lack of resistance against authoritarian discourse, self-abnegation, and fear of freedom.”

As I go about my work this week, I am thankful that Colonel Meyers did not fail to adopt a rebellious position and instead, spoke the truth to power. She utilized her freedom to point out the obvious untruths.

She is an example to all.
