{"id":30,"date":"2013-04-11T21:05:35","date_gmt":"2013-04-11T21:05:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/curtaustin.com\/bookshelf\/?p=30"},"modified":"2023-11-24T12:56:08","modified_gmt":"2023-11-24T12:56:08","slug":"the-gospel-of-yes-no","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/curtaustin.com\/bookshelf\/2013\/04\/11\/the-gospel-of-yes-no\/","title":{"rendered":"The Gospel of Yes&#8230;NO!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-31\" src=\"http:\/\/curtaustin.com\/bookshelf\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/09\/the-gospel-of-yes.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"199\" height=\"299\" srcset=\"https:\/\/curtaustin.com\/bookshelf\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/09\/the-gospel-of-yes.jpg 199w, https:\/\/curtaustin.com\/bookshelf\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/09\/the-gospel-of-yes-64x96.jpg 64w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 199px) 100vw, 199px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I know writers work hard at their craft.\u00a0 I know they try to work out new and exciting ideas.\u00a0 I know that they have passion for the topics.\u00a0 I know they spend hours, weeks, months and sometimes years writing their books.\u00a0 That doesn\u2019t necessarily make the book any good.<\/p>\n<p>The Gospel of Yes is billed as a new and different idea.\u00a0 It\u2019s portrayed as something fresh and original.\u00a0 In truth, it is Church-Speak.\u00a0 It\u2019s written for church goers and nothing more.\u00a0 It is a Gospel apologetic for the uptight Christian.<\/p>\n<p>I had a friend who, in his college days dated a wonderful young woman from a very conservative Christian home.\u00a0 Seriously, she was amazingly\u00a0 sweet and they hit it off very well.\u00a0 The problem was that her religious back ground was filled with religiously based \u201cNo\u2019s\u201d.\u00a0 She could not play cards, swim in a mixed-sex pool, or see a movie unless it was a Disney cartoon.\u00a0\u00a0 I suspect this book was written for people who grew up in this atmosphere of strictly enforced Christian boundaries.<\/p>\n<p>Herein lies the problem:\u00a0 The idea that God is all about the Yes is wonderful but, if you\u2019ve already taken your hair out of the bun and already gotten off the horse and buggy, this book might be a little simple-minded for you.\u00a0 It certainly was for me.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I know writers work hard at their craft.\u00a0 I know they try to work out new and exciting ideas.\u00a0 I &hellip;
